stranded wire
Electrical wire comprising a bundle of insulated individual strands.
Given this multi-stranded design, a stranded conductor is significantly more flexible than a solid conductor and is resistant to cable break.
The skin effect is also far lower for stranded conductors than solid conductors because multiple stranded conductors have a larger surface area than a single solid conductor.
Stranded wires are frequently used for patch cables, antenna cables, speaker cables, instrument cables etc., i.e. everywhere that flexibility and low skin effect are required.
