shielding
Shielding serves to repel external interference, ensure interference-free power or signal transmission and prevent leakage of electrical and magnetic fields.
Depending on the cable type, shielding can enclose multiple conductors and/or all conductors (external shield). Shields can be braided or made from conductive plastic film or metal foil.
Shielding improves the cable’s electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
Coverage is expressed as a percentage and describes the extent of the cable surface under the braiding which is covered by the shield.
